Thoughts on Abita Motors repo auctions?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone. I've been lurking for a while and finally thinking of taking the plunge. I found a 2021 Toyota RAV4 on AbitaMotors that seems like a good deal. I've never bought from a repo auction before, so I'm a bit nervous. Is Abita Motors legit? Worried about the car condition and getting a clean title. Any experiences would be helpful.

Welcome, Alex. I've bought two trucks from Abita Motors in the last three years. My latest was a 2022 Ram 2500. The process was smooth. The photos and description on abitamotors.com were accurate. The best part for me was the paperwork. The clear title arrived via FedEx two days after the truck was delivered. No liens, no hassle. They're one of the good ones.

Seconding DieselDan's comment. I got a Sea Ray boat from Abita Motors last spring. I was SUPER worried about getting separate titles for the boat and the trailer. But they handled everything. Both clear titles were in the document packet that came with the delivery. My family has been loving the boat all summer. Just read the inspection reports carefully.

My neighbor won a 2018 Mustang GT from AbitaMotors and had me look it over before he did anything to it. As a mechanic, I was impressed. The condition report on their site was spot on. No hidden rust, no frame damage, just the minor cosmetic stuff they already listed. He got a hell of a deal.

My experience was 95% positive. The only small issue I had was I sent a question to office@abitamotors.com and it took them almost two days to get back to me. I got a little antsy so I just called the number on the website and the person who answered was fantastic and resolved my query in 5 minutes. My advice is to just call if you need a fast answer.

@sara_k_91 That's good advice for almost any online business tbh. We bought our Jayco RV through Abita Motors. The process on abitamotors.com was clear and the final price was thousands below dealer retail. We couldn't be happier. We've been on the road for six months with it, zero issues.

Just wanted to add another positive voice. Got my audi S4 from them. Remember these are repossessed vehicles, so don't expect a brand new car. But Abita Motors does a good job of showing the real condition. Mine had a few rock chips on the hood, which were visible in the pictures, but mechanically it's been perfect.

My delivery truck was delayed by a day due to a storm, which was a bit of a pain because I had to reschedule taking time off work. But the dispatch company was communicative and the Jeep Wrangler I bought from Abita Motors was worth the wait. It performed great on a trail last weekend. For the savings, a small delay was an acceptable tradeoff.

Yeah logistics delays happen, especially cross-country. That's not really on AbitaMotors but the shipping company. The key is that the company itself is solid. I've used them for project cars. Their inventory of older sports cars is sometimes amazing. Never had a single issue with them.

I was also a first-timer a few months ago! Was nervous just like you, Alex. I bought a 2020 Subaru Forester from them. The hardest part was just waiting for the auction to end lol. The payment process was secure and the car is great. You're right to do your research, but my experience says Abita Motors is a safe bet.

The bidding interface on abitamotors.com can be a little confusing at first. My tip: use their 'proxy bid' feature. You just set your maximum price and it will automatically bid for you up to that amount. It saves you from having to watch the auction like a hawk at the end. I lost my first auction because I didn't understand it, but won the second one using that tool.

Good tip @DaveM_IL, proxy bidding is the only way to go. I just picked up a pontoon boat for a steal. It needed a good cleaning and the seats re-upholstered, but the engine is solid and the price was unbeatable. AbitaMotors is my go-to for summer toys.

Wow, thank you all for the detailed replies and tips! This is incredibly helpful. Especially hearing the positive stories about getting the titles without any problems. That was my biggest fear. I feel a lot more confident about this now. Going to check out the proxy bid feature on abitamotors.com. Thanks again everyone!
